Driver Training

Drivers must hold a valid MiDAS certificate to enable them to drive our vehicles.  We no longer provide this training and you will need to contact another provider to discuss your training requirements.

Local providers include:

Darren Heron - 07826 867859

Durham County Council - Tel: 03000 269 356

If you passed your driving test prior to 1997 then you will be entitled to drive a minibus as you were automatically awarded the D1 entitlement which allows drivers to drive vehicles up to 16 passenger seat but only as part of not for hire or reward schemes like ours.  You will still need to check your licence for this category as it may have been removed due to certain medical conditions.

If you passed after this date you would need to achieve the category by taking a PCV D1 test unless you meet the following criteria:

  • You have held your licence for 2 or more years
  • You are aged 25 - 70 (if over 70 you must take a medical)
  • You are providing your services on a voluntary basis only (not as part of your paid employment even if out of normal office hours, at weekends or while on paid leave)
  • You do not tow a trailer
  • The vehicle weighs <3500 kgs or <4250 kgs if fitted with wheelchair lift.
